4 Stars One of the better educational DVDs for babies
This is one of the best educational DVDs out there for babies and, believe me, I’ve seen them all! YBCR exposes babies to language, both written and spoken and gets a baby interested in the written word, which can be quite a barrier to break down. It uses a multisensory approach to teaching, which should have most babies covered. My kids love this and it has gotten them reading. A similar educational DVD exists for music as well (the title of which is “Trebellina”); that one is animated by teaches babies how to read music, perfect pitch, and instrument names and sounds. Put the two DVDs together and you’re covering right and left brain training!
5 Stars 50+ words
contains about 50+ words such as body parts, animals, animal sounds, and action words. I just got it so I am not sure of the result but I can see where it will teach.
5 Stars question?
I want to try this with my soon to be 3 year old, but I want to just buy one video at a time. Do they have to be watched in order?
2 Stars Your Baby Can Read
I found that if you used all the great flashcards that are available nowadays you will be able to get good results also. The Touchy Feely Flashcards, Baby Flashcards, Animal Flashcards will help your baby to learn. Just be consistent with going over the flashcards daily. Point to the word and point to the picture. Also reading to them daily from as early as 3-4 months is the best thing for them to establish a loving, comfortable time and give them the love of reading and learning.
5 Stars Wonderful!
My twins love these videos. I started off showing them vol. 1 when they were 9 months (now they are almost 1 1/2) and they would pay attention the entire time. One day I asked where their mouth was and they both pointed to their mouths without me ever telling them where it is. I was amazed! My daughter can read a few words and I have yet to do the flashcards. I just got the second volume and the kids enjoyed it just as much as the first. Most of the time I watch the videos with them and interact with the videos to help the kids understand how to read and repeat the words. These videos are so educational and my children love them! What else could you ask for?!

4 Stars Fun to read
I enjoy reading this book and my son enjoys hearing it. Just be aware that there are non-sense words to trip you up and words that aren’t intuitive for a non reader like ‘ceiling’ in the c’s.
4 Stars Thank Goodness for Dr. Seuss Board Books!
Like many reviewers, I prefer the full version of these Dr. Seuss stories - but the board book versions are a MUST if your kids love to “read” on their own. You just can’t leave books with paper pages out for young toddlers/infants to explore on their own…the books will be ripped to shreds in no time. Our babies started to enjoy “reading” to themselves before they were 12-months old, and we want to encourage that habit! So, we have an out-of-reach shelf for the “big” books that Mommy and Daddy read with the kids, and a book stand that the kids can explore on their own FILLED with these board books (which Mom and Dad also read with them). I like this short, fun, alphabet book, and the kids get a kick out of the silly gestures and sounds we make when we read it.
2 Stars Buyer Beware!
I wish I had read the reviews here before purchasing the book. Listen to the other reviewers and don’t buy this horribly abridged version of the original!
4 Stars A classic
I still remember the way my Dad used to say a Zizzer-Zazzer-Zuzz! And, now my son enjoys the silly Seuss words and rhymes to the point that our copy is now quite tattered and worn!
3 Stars Very small book
I guess I should attend to the details in the description of the products I buy, but please be aware that this is a very tiny book and I was a little disappointed by it. It is of course a classic book, therefore the content was fine, but VERY small.

The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy

Your Girlfriends, of course — at least, the ones who’ve been through the exhilaration and exhaustion, the agony and ecstasy of pregnancy. Four-time delivery room veteran Vicki Iovine, “the Carrie Bradshaw of pregnancy” (Wall Street Journal), talks to you the way only a best friend can — in the book that will go the whole nine months for every mother-to-be. Now, in this newly revised and updated edition, get the lowdown on all those little things that are too strange or embarrassing to ask, practical tips, and hilarious takes on everything pregnant.
What Really Happens to Your Body — from morning sickness and gas to eating everything in sight — and what it’s like to go from being a babe to having one.
The Many Moods of Pregnancy — why you’re so irritable/distracted/ tired/light-headed (or at least more than usual).
Plus, the latest scoop on . . .
Staying Stylish — You may be pregnant, but you can still be the fashionista you’ve always been (or at least you don’t have to look like a walking beach ball) — wearing the hippest designers and proudly showing off your bump.
Pregnancy Is Down to a Science — from in vitro fertilization to scheduled C-section, the latest technology provides so many options, alternatives, and tests, it can all be downright confusing.
. . . and much more! For a reassuring voice or just a few good belly laughs, turn to this straight-talking guide on what to really expect when you’re expecting.

5 Stars fun fun fun
I purchased this book for my stepdaughter who is pregnant with her first child. She informs me she has read it twice and still giggles at every page.
1 Star Probably a good read AFTER you’ve had your baby
A friend gave me this book as a fun and light-hearted alternative during my second trimester. While I did find myself laughing out loud on occasion I found the overall tone to be cynical, shallow and generally negative. Sure, aspects of pregnancy, labor and birth are messy and difficult, but I don’t think a woman looking for material which touts itself as ‘practical and comforting’ appreciates advice on scheduling labor to ensure the doctor is fed, her hair is clean and her legs shaved. Nor do I think husbands are idiots, as Ms. Iovine perpetually insinuates as she belittles her spouse on everything from his ability to give a massage to pack a bag for the hospital.
This book is probably best for women having their second or third baby, or women who have given birth. It must be funnier for those who have ‘been there, done that’… but for us first timers the book certainly doesn’t paint a picture free of sarcasm or obsession with changing bodies and the ability to keep one’s toenails nice.
1 Star The book is horrible… honestly!
Ladies (and gentlemen),
I don’t even know where to start - this is how frustrated I am.
Ok, I’ll start with this one -
GIRLS - IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO STAY CONFIDENT, PRETTY, FIT AND HEALTHY DURING YOUR PREGNANCY, DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK!!!
I am 32 weeks pregnant and I’ve already read all possible pregnancy books multiple times. This book was recommended to me by a pregnant girl I met at a party - she said it was fun and humorous. All right, we’ll give Vicki Iovine that - it is funny and humorous. But… makes no sense whatsoever.
For instance, the author actually RECOMMENDS not exercising during pregnancy based on the fact that she had some sort of bleeding episode when she “tried to maintain her traditional exercise program of running and weight lifting”. Duh!!!!! You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to guess that you have to modify the exercise routine when pregnant - constantly modify as the pregnancy progresses.
On top of that throughout the whole book the author leaves the remarks about not ever looking like you did before you got pregnant, about destroyed sex life with your husband (partner), about scheduled C-sections not being that bad after all, blah blah blah..
Anyways, it got me interested enough to google Vicki Iovine’s images. [...]. Well imagine the level of my surprise when I found out that Vicki Iovine is a very pretty woman that looks fab AND was a Playboy centerfold playmate in the issue of 1979!!! Huh - speaking of making money on the rest of the population that has already decided to spend 9 months on the couch followed by a scheduled C-section and just needed a little push, some encouragement coming from such a reliable source as pregnancy book!
Last thing I have to say - thank goodness I picked this book up in my third trimester when it’s already obvious that half of the info presented in this masterpiece is outright BS!
5 Stars Fun, refreshing book.
I bought this book based on a reccomendation by a friend. I love it! It is so funny and well written. All the serious pregnancy books were scaring me and making me nervous…was I eating enough of this, that or the other, and don’t do this and that. But this was light hearted yet insightful and truly the kind of things a girlfriend would tell you. I reccomend this book to all expectant mothers.
1 Star No “secret” information
This book claims to have information your doctor won’t tell you. The only new information I heard was inaccurate (i.e. there is no benefit to exercising while pregnant and that you will actually hurt your baby if you exercise). I know she says these things are only the opinion of her and her Girlfriends but unless you want the opinion of shallow, below-average intelligence people, don’t bother with this book. All the “secrets” were covered with actual medical backing in “What to Expect…” and “Mayo’s Guide…”.
